: Recent studies of the kinetic mechanisms and pattern formation in two H2O2-based chemical dynamical systems

Marek Orlik graduated at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Warsaw (M.Sc. 1982, Ph. D. 1990 under supervision of Prof. Z. Galus, habilitation 2000)and is now a Titular (full) Professor of Chemistry at his home Faculty. His research was initially focused on classical electrochemistry, involving mechanisms of electrode processes of coordination compounds and the kinetics of fast electrode reactions, studied both experimentally and with numerical modelling, realized both at the home Faculty and at the University of Linz (Austria, with Prof. G. Gritzner). Later he switched to nonlinear dynamicsin electrochemical interfacial processes and in homogeneous systems. As a scholar of the Humboldt Foundation, he worked for two years (1996-1998) in the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Gesellschaft in Berlin, with K. Doblhofer and G. Ertl, where he studied experimentally and numerically the self-organized convection in electrochemical systems. Later studies of nonlinear dynamic phenomena in electrode reactions of the pseudohalogenide complexes of nickel led, among others, to the discovery of a rarely reported experimentally phenomenon of tristability. In recent years he has been dealing with the analysis of kinetic mechanisms and new types of non-equilibrium patterns in H2O2-based chemical oscillators. He is an author or coauthor of about 60 original and review scientific publications, including three chapters in “Encyclopedia of Electrochemistry” (Wiley, 2006) as well as of two books about dynamics of nonlinear chemical systems, including the recent, two-volume monograph Self-organization in electrochemical systems, published by Springer-Vlg. in 2012.
